the ritual of claiming space, Bob Owens Gallery, University of North Georgia, Dahlonega, Georgia, 2019
Gay to continues the ini-she-ation of young Black girls as her protagonist and with her mother as a supporting figure of divinity. The young devout muse focuses on finding and claiming space throughout the installation. The installation is in black and white throughout the gallery space, reflecting simplicity and dynamism of black as a powerful color all on it's own, it is loud and quiet, it is exquisite and crude, such is the experience of young Black girls finding their place in the world.
